
Travelers can now choose to take the train from New York City to Burlington, Vermont instead of flying or driving for the first time since 1950. Amtrak will resume service between the two cities starting Friday, July 29.
In a press release, Jeff Lawson, Hello Burlington director, stated that "We couldn’t be more excited welcome Amtrak’s Ethan Allen Express into downtown Burlington." "It's been decades since the city has had rail service. With today's traveler seeking more sustainable transport options, the timing couldn't be better."
It will take approximately 7.5 hours to travel the entire length of the Ethan Allen Express. The train will travel through the Hudson Valley, Green Mountains and along the shores Lake Champlain. It will also make intermediate stops in Middlebury, Vergennes, Vermont. The route used to reach Rutland (Vt.), which is about 70 miles from Burlington.
The train will leave New York City's Penn Station daily at 2:21 p.m. and travel north to Burlington at 9 :55 p.m. The southbound train will depart Burlington at 10.10 a.m. to arrive in New York City around 5:45 p.m.
