We have good news and bad news. The good news is, we can finally talk about the 2023 Subaru WRX pricing. The bad news is, like most things this year, it costs more than last year's Subaru WRX. Each of the WRX's four trim levels see price increase of a little over $1,000 apiece. The base 2023 Subaru WRX with a six-speed transmission now starts at $31,625.
The Premium trim starts at $34,125 with the six-speed transmission but jumps up to $36,175 when choosing to the "Subaru Performance Transmission" (SPT)—a fancy term for a continuously variable automatic transmission, or CVT. Note, that price includes a Harmon Kardon speaker system and moonroof. That package is mandatory for anyone who wants the SPT, but hey, a moonroof is cool right?
Next up is the Limited trim which starts at $38,515 with the stick shift and requires an additional $2,250 for the SPT. Finally, there's the GT trim which will hit the wallet to the tune of $44,415 and comes with the SPT standard with no option for the manual six-speed gearbox.
Despite the price bump there isn't much in the way of new features to justify the increase. The same 2.4-liter 271 horsepower turbocharged boxer engine and active torque vectoring remains standard on every WRX. Aside from that, it is pretty much business as usual. The Premium trim still comes with the 18-inch dark grey alloy wheels, the Limited trim still has the steering responsive headlights, and GT still comes with the electronically controlled dampers. It's all still there but nothing extra, except the price.
Though, we suppose expecting drastic upgrades when this iteration of the WRX hasn't been around very long isn't very realistic. If you're more interested in utility rather than track-minded performance, you may want to take a look at the 2024 Subaru Impreza which was revealed last month, or its lifted, more SUV-ish sibling, the Crosstrek.
